Fairy Tale Week / Make A Princess Hat

Hi!

Make A Princess Hat

Since this week’s theme is fairy tales, the Ever After High girls just had to make an appearance! We decided that they would be just perfect to model for this particular craft: a princess hat! It’s super easy to make and the results are oh-so cute, and with a few simple adjustments, you can make a version for American Girl {or other!} dolls.

Supplies

YOU WILL NEED…

  • Scrapbook paper or construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Embroidery thread in a coordinating color
  • A pencil (not shown)
  • Something circular to trace (a bowl or cup works best)
  • Tulle (Scraps of light fabric or even pre-wrap would also work for this step.)

How to Make a Princess Hat

TO MAKE

  1. Start by tracing a half circle from patterned scrapbook paper using a small soup bowl. For Ever After High dolls the height should be about 2 and 1/2 inches at the highest point, and 5 inches across at the longest point. For AG sizes, it should be 3 and 1/2 inches at the highest point and 7 inches across at the longest point.
  2. Cut it out.
  3. Fold it, so it creates a cone shape. Secure the middle with tape, leaving a small opening at the top.
  4. Cut a rectangle of tulle, which can be as long or short as you want.
  5. Gather the tulle together at the bottom and wrap it in tape.
  6. Slip the taped end into the opening at the top of the hat.
  7. Cut two strands of matching embroidery thread to act as your doll’s strap.
  8. Tape to the inside of the hat.

Piper on Apple

Our EAH girls couldn’t wait to model their new accessories! Each one got a hat in her favorite color or pattern, and we snapped a few photos of them with things representing their own tales. Here’s Piper sitting on an apple, for her story, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Aren’t they just adorable?

To finish off today’s post, we wanted to ask which fairy tale you would want to experience (or at least a part of it!). Lulu would love to travel through Wonderland and Bella wouldn’t mind donning a pretty gown and glass slippers at Cinderella’s ball!
