A Review of Josefina’s Nightgown

Josefina 1Ever since I first learned about her, Josefina has been my favorite AG historical doll. I remember saving up my money to buy her online, snatching up her outfits, and picking up her mystery book multiple times at my local library. Due to her special place in my heart, I always keep an eye out during new releases to see if she gets any new outfits, so I was thrilled a few months ago with the Beforever pajama revamp. At our last visit to the American Girl Store, I picked up Josefina’s orange and white nightgown, falling in love with its orange accents and matching slippers. This weekend I finally got a chance to write up my thoughts on this lovely set, which you can check out below!

NightgownHemlineThe dress is a shift style, with layering and orange stitching at the bottom adding some pretty embellishment. In some positions, it can look a little rectangle-like, although I’m sure a good ironing out of the folds left from being in the box will help with that. The white and orange look lovely on Josefina, and make it a welcome addition to her collection!

NecklineOne of my favorite parts on the nightgown is the neckline, which is a square shape, covered with a layer of lace fabric and topped off with a woven orange ribbon. The shape is flattering on Josefina, and the crochet lace is a nice touch. I adore the woven detail of the ribbon, which adds some color to the dress. The bow on mine was a bit crooked at first, but I was able to straighten it out pretty well by the time of the photos.

ShoesAlong with the nightgown is a pair of cream-colored slippers, with an embroidered flower and an orange scalloped pattern around the edge. They’re pretty easy to get on, and stayed on Josefina’s feet throughout the photo shoot and an afternoon of being moved around. I love the pops of pink and blue that the flower brings to the outfit, and the embroidery around the edge is quite nice. The soles and overall shape are simple, but I’m a fan of the fact that they allow Josefina to stand on her own!

Josefina 2We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

We hope you’re all having a lovely Sunday! With the start of our February break tomorrow, Bella and I are looking forward to afternoons spent watching Scandal, hanging out with friends, and writing up a few blog posts (keep your eye out for a review of Josefina’s nightgown later this week!) And what better way to kick off our break than with Valentine’s Day? The cold New England weather left behind some snow, making it the perfect backdrop for a photo shoot featuring our own EAH cutie, Cupid.

Bri’s New Year’s Live Blog + Meet Eliza and Sarah

Happy Almost January, everyone! Bella and I wanted to spend the last couple days of 2015 getting a head start on our New Year’s Resolutions – being a bit better about updating the blog. We’ve been really busy these past couple of months with school and the holidays, but not to worry! We have lots of great things coming up, including our next issue, featuring the new GOTY. (Bella and I are going to our nearest AG store on Friday for the new release, and we’ll be sure to share our thoughts on the new items.) Today I’m popping in to share some fun Bri-related news, as well as introduce you to two new additions who joined our doll family last week.

Bri Live Blog 2015First up, Bri will be back this year with another New Year’s Eve Live Blog! For those of you who missed last year’s event, you can check it out here (along with the summer version), but we can also quickly sum it up: Bri and her buds celebrated the New Year with a party (and took over the comments section), which was documented and updated every half hour here on the blog until midnight. The response was great and we had loads of fun, so Bella and I are quite excited for this year’s installment. Check out the details below!

  • On December 31 (Tomorrow!) Bri will be having a New Year’s Eve extravaganza with her friends, and will be blogging an extra special post in honor of the event here on the Doll Mag blog. The post will be updated throughout the evening at every half hour. So, every 30 minutes, be sure to refresh your page to see what Bri is up to.
  • The event starts tomorrow evening at 8:30 PM E.T. and will run until 12:00 AM.
  • Starting 8:30 PM E.T. till 12:00 AM E.T., Bri will be online and responding to your comments! Sounds fun, right?

We hope you can join in on the festivities! And of course, you can always catch up on Jan 1st.

Now, onto the new additions to our doll family! I was lucky enough to receive two new Ever After High dolls this holiday season, Dragon Games Darling Charming and Fairest on Ice Duchess Swan. Both are gorgeous and very photogenic, so I couldn’t wait to do their introductory photo shoots. Below are their pictures and a bit more in-depth info about them.

Eliza 1I’ll start with Duchess, who is a vision in purple. When I first saw the photos of the Fairest on Ice line, Duchess was definitely my favorite, but seeing her in person is what really made me fall in love with her. She has the loveliest eyes and makeup (those eyebrows!) and her outfit is gorgeous. I ended up renaming her Eliza, because not only does it suit her, but also because Bella and I are huge Hamilton fans, and Eliza Hamilton (played by the amazing Phillipa Soo) is the best. Anyway, I figure that Eliza probably enjoys ice skating, Broadway musicals, a good brunch, and dance.

Eliza 2 Eliza 3 Eliza 4

Sarah 1Next up we have Dragon Games Darling Charming, who I’ve been eyeing for a little while. I really liked Darling’s character in the EAH webseries, so I was eager to check out her dolls. Her Dragon Games version immediately piqued my interest with her detailed armor and light blue color palette, so I was quite excited to receive her as a gift. And like Eliza, she is amazing in person! She has a really nice facial screening, and her outfit is super duper cool. I ended up naming her Sarah, (after Sarah Walker, from my favorite TV show, Chuck) and decided that she probably likes fantasy movies and books (Wizards! Pirates! Magic!), mythology and mythos, animals, and chocolate chip cookies.

And one last photo of these cuties together…

A Fall Photoshoot

October is one of my favorite months! Not only is it when my birthday falls, but it is also when I finally feel like it’s autumn. The weather becomes perfect for jackets, vests, and boots, apple cider immediately becomes my favorite beverage, and the leaves begin to change colors and fall to the ground. This weekend, I dug out my sweaters and Bella and I kicked off the fall season with a fun movie night, watching the spooky classic, Halloweentown. Of course, our dolls wanted to join in on the fun too! Dressed in a new ensemble, Dani headed outside with me today for some cold(er) weather photos.

Psst. Thanks so much for your patience with our Anne of Green Gables book club post! We’ll have it up Tuesday and would love to hear your thoughts on the last set of chapters.

Working on Wednesdays / 34

One of our favorite parts of making the magazine is brainstorming and photographing our cover. While it can be a long process, it’s always an enjoyable one, and this month’s photo shoot was no different! For the July/August issue, we were inspired by our love of all things nautical and the nearby Boston harbor to take some pictures of Lauryce, our oh-so cute Hearts for Hearts doll, by the water. We ended up using only one of these shots in the final magazine, but the two of us couldn’t wait to share the outtakes of this summer photo shoot with you. Have you gone any fun adventures this summer?

We also took a couple of non-doll related photos while we were out and about around Boston…

Which photo of Lauryce is your favorite?

Psst. We are super behind in replying to comments, but we hope to get to each and every one soon! Thank you, as always, for stopping by and reading.

Springtime / A Photo Shoot

I’m happy to say that the springtime weather has finally arrived where we live, and that we’re enjoying every minute of it! I absolutely love all of the gorgeous flowers and blossoms that are blooming outside my window – they’re just so pretty. :)  Every time I see them, I end up thinking back to Sienna’s welcome post (back when her name was spelled Siena), which is one of my favorite photo shoots that I have done for this blog. A few days ago I noticed that the bushes in our garden were covered in soft pink flowers and I decided to recreate that post with the help of Sienna and my other nature-loving EAH doll, Dani. Check it out below!

Sienna in BushFirst up we have a picture of Sienna among the greens! I just love the light in this one.

Dani and FenceHere’s Dani just looking cute!

Sienna's ShoesFor some reason Sienna’s shoes fascinate me. Hmm…

Dani and FlowersAnd here’s a shot of Dani with all of the flowers. I love how they look with her hair!

Happy spring!

P.S. Right now is Bella’s tech week (she’s the stage manager for her school’s production of Shrek – yay!), so we’ll just be popping in and out this week. We have loads of fun things planned for this month (including a birthday party poll!) though, so be sure to keep a look out!

Meet Gigi!

Meet GigiA few weeks ago, my wonderful mother surprised me with a very special gift…a Ginger Breadhouse Ever After High doll! I immediately fell in love with her cute glasses and fluffy pink hair, and began brainstorming nicknames. After a couple hours of scouring name sites and collaborating with Bella, I came up with the perfect name: Gigi! Or Gigi the Genius, as Bri has deemed her. She loves science, baking (she and Cupid are going to be whipping up all sorts of yummy treats!), old movies, chocolate, fashion, and wants to be a Food Scientist when she grows up!

Gigi the Genius and I couldn’t wait to take some sweet-themed photos…

Bri LogoHi everyone! So today we’re being very quiet so that Lulu doesn’t know I’m writing the intro without-

Without what?

Yep! Can’t have a good intro without cupcakes.

But you’ve never had cupcakes while you were writing intros in the past.

I wholeheartedly agree friend.

I am so confused…

Oh. Might as well get to the story then. ONWARD!!!!

Kitty and Lizzie This afternoon, Kitty-Kat and Rub-a-Dub decided to host a bake-off! Naturally, I decided to enter my super secret recipe, but more on that later. “Hi everyone!” Rubye said excitedly when we all arrived at the bake-off. “Welcome to our bake-off,” Kitty added with a mysterious smile. “Why don’t you all go set up your treats and we’ll come by so you can tell us about them?” Rubye suggested. We all nodded and rushed into the courtyard.

Piper's Treat “What did you make?” Rubye asked Piper a little while later, once everyone was set up. “White chocolate apple scones!” Piper told her cheerfully, “They’re my go-to breakfast food.” She offered a bit of pastry to her friend, who accepted it with a smile. “That’s wonderful!” Rubye laughed, reaching for another piece.

Cupid's Treat “Hey Kit-Kat!” Cupid greeted Kitty, who was coming by to see what she had whipped up. “Want to try one of my shortbread cookies?” Kitty nodded eagerly and began nibbling on the tip of the heart-shaped sweet.  “The special ingredient is love!” Cupid informed her, passing the purple host another treat.

Bri's Treat“What did you create?” Rubye asked your’s truly when they finally made their way to my station. “Why non other than my amazing Funfetti Everything Cupcake!” I gestured to my tower of delicious treats. Kitty raised an eyebrow, “Are you supposed to start from the top or the bottom?” “That’s the beauty of it! There is no wrong way to eat it!” I replied happily.

Grace's Thoughts“And now, our judges, Sienna, Dani, and Grace, will be coming around to taste your yummy sweets!” Rubye announced once she and Kitty had made their way back to the center of the courtyard. I watched as  my three friends began walking towards Piper’s scones. “Mmmm!” Grace bit into the edge of the warm pastry. “That’s delicious! Not too dry, not too hot, but just right!”

Dani's Thoughts“These are the best things I’ve ever tasted!” Dani squealed near by as she filled her mouth with shortbread cookies. “Cupid, these are oh-so tasty!” She jumped around excitedly and gave Cupid a big thumbs up.

Sienna's ThoughtsI watched as Sienna headed towards my cupcake next. “Hey Bri! Nice…cupcake?” She shrugged and took a bit out of the rainbow-colored cake at the bottom of the tower. “Yummy,” She nodded. “I think you may have gone a bit overboard with the toppings though.”

And the winner is...My two friends and I watched in anticipation as Sienna went over to the judges and whispered the winner of the contest in Kitty’s ear. “And the winner of the Great Bake-Off is…” Kitty began the announcement. “CUPID!” Rubye finished for her.

HugsI was disappointed of course, but just looking at Cupid’s shortbread cookies would make anyone’s mouth water. “Great job Cupid!” Piper and I congratulated our friend. “Hugsies!” I exclaimed and we gave our pink-haired bud a huge hug.

And now a very special surprise for all of my super awesome readers…a Comments From Bri Recipe Book featuring all the recipes shown in today’s post! You’re welcome!

Happy Saturday!

Time for me to write the intro?

Can it be?

Are you sure?

Fine…then it’s time for-

TRIVIA WITH BRI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The new game show hit! Watch it below!

Watch it?

Overhead ShotWelcome to Trivia with Bri! The game show where you’re awesome no matter what! If you win, you’ll win fabulous prizes! What are those fabulous prizes you ask? Who’s playing? Who’s in the audience? Who’s keeping track of these points? Why do game show hosts use so many exclamation points? Find out the answers to these questions and more after the short break.

Bri as HostWelcome back! I’m your host, Bri Beauty: the one who will be asking those hard-to-answer trivia questions, talking really fast, and holding that weirdly-long microphone. (AKA the coolest person on the show!) Let’s meet the rest of our game show crew, shall we?

DaniFirst up, we have my partner-in-crime, Dani! Her job is to keep track of the contestants points, gesture a lot, and announce the prizes.

ContestantsAnd then of course, we have the contestants! Today’s trivia-anwserers are the ever fabulous Piper, the creatively cool Sienna, and the riddling cutie, Kitty-Cat!

AudienceLast, but not least, we have the amazing studio audience! We would be nothing without them! Let’s give them all a round of applause.

Question #1Alright-y! Time for question #1! “What three things did I talk about in my first ever post?” “Beep!” Rang Piper’s buzzers. “Oh! You got a new closet, complained about how Isabelle stole your style, and discussed the importance of high heels.” The “correct” music played in the background. “You’re absolutely positively right!” I announced as Dani placed a points sign under Piper’s name.

question 2“Okay, time for question #2! What did Cupid give Sienna at her Hollywood birthday party?”

Sienna Answers“I know! I know!” Sienna cried. “Popcorn!” Before the correct music could play, Cupid shouted, “That’s right!” (And then she munched on some popcorn.)

Kitty Guesses“Question #3! What did Rubye give me for my birthday last year?” No one rang their buzzers. “Piper? Sienna?” Both of them shook their head. “Kitty?” Kitty raised an eyebrow, “I don’t know? Cards?” The correct music played loudly. “Wait, really?” Kitty asked in disbelief.

All tied upEventually the contestants were all tied up: “And now, for the extra hard, final, tie-breaking question: What three things did Grace wish for when I was her genie?”

SilenceSilence. “Anybody?” I announced.

Grace Knows“I know,” Grace called out from the audience. “I wished for porridge, for the porridge to disappear, and for you to go away.” “That is correct!” I exclaimed, “And since the contestants are still tied; everyone’s a winner!” Piper raised her hand, “What’s the prize though?” I felt my jaw drop, “Oh yeah…the prize…is….that…um….COMMERCIAL BREAK!”

Keep on Bri-ing cool,

Bri (And Lulu!)

Doll Mag Academy / Lunch Time Printables

Lunch PrintablesDoll Mag Academy is starting to come to an end, but we still have a couple more fun posts to share with you today and tomorrow during our wrap-up. For this post, we have a collection of super cute lunch-themed printables for you, so let’s get to it, shall we?

PrintablesThe printable set includes a menu so your doll knows what’s for lunch, a cupcake-themed tray, a water bottle label, two juice bag labels, and the front and back of an animal cracker snack bag.

MenuZoey couldn’t wait to help model our new lunch menu. She’s thinking of ordering the salad, how about you?

Animal CrackersHere’s the animal cracker bag! We stapled the two sides of ours together and put a little bit of stuffing inside to make it look full, but you could always cut out actual animal “crackers” from tan construction paper or foam.

You can download the printables here: Lunch Printables

For more school-themed printables, check out last year’s school themed posters.
